Hi! I'm Irene and I'm a pre-vet student at UC Berkeley. I've wanted to be a vet since a young age and honestly, I can't believe I stuck with my passion for such a long time. At age four, I declared that I was going to be a veterinarian and starting from age ten and on, I watched youtube videos from Vet Ranch and other channels. As a child, I spent half my days watching wildlife tv shows like Wild Kratts, Zaboomafoo, Animal Planet, and others. My story stems from my deep curiosity for medicine and zoology at a young age.
I am very interested in wildlife, zoo, aquatic, and shelter medicine. As I gain experience in different fields, I will narrow down these interests. I volunteer, not only because I have to for vet school (haha) but because I genuinely enjoy it! I enjoy working with animals and it is one of the few things in my life that seem to come naturally to me. I volunteer at free vaccine clinics and shelters because I am a strong advocate for underprivileged animal health. I have personal experiences tied to this and I want to work to aim for a fair and better system for veterinary medicine.
My favorite volunteer experience so far has been at the monthly free vaccine clinics. Many volunteers come to help those in low-income families vaccinate their beloved dogs and cats, and I have met the kindest, and friendliest people there.
The vet volunteer app has helped me keep track of my hours and experiences which will be very useful to me when I apply to vet schools in 2025. Without it, I wouldn't have my hours and experiences organized and have no idea where I am as a pre-vet.
